Dear Reframers,
I’m thrilled to announce that Reframing Disability’s Global Directory of Disabled News Media Professionals is now published! Find the directory on the website. Today’s post details the purpose behind the directory and ways to use it.
Thanks to all who submitted their details; I hope it does more for us than we have hoped for.
The directory currently includes over 60 professionals from 17 countries and is steadily growing. It will be shared with newsrooms and potential hirers globally.
Please share it widely to make it a success!
Many, many, thanks to my friends who helped me put the directory together.

Archana Mohan of Bookosmia, thanks a ton, for offering to create the image!
Swati Shikha, thanks so much for your patience with my texts on representation! A bigger story will come out of this banter, I’m sure.
Deepa Padmanaban, Kavya Mukhija, Aditi Sowmyanarayanan, Gayatri Gulvady, Siddharth Kankaria, and all the members of the Global Collective of Disabled News Media Professionals WhatsApp group, for your moral support – huge thanks!

Who is this directory for?
Newsrooms
Organisations
Associations
Communications departments
Creative agencies
Anyone looking to commission or collaborate on media projects with professionals who apart from their skills could also bring the lived experience of disability to their work.

Will you support the work of Reframing Disability if you value it?
C.K. Meena, journalist, author and journalism teacher, says:
“Reframing Disability should be made mandatory reading in every newsroom. It would be an eye-opener for most journalists, who have fuzzy or inaccurate notions about disabled people. More importantly, it lays down guidelines on best practices in reporting on disability. Besides offering suggestions on how to carry out sensitive, in-depth coverage, it provides useful information in every issue.”
If you’re reading this, you likely find value in this newsletter. Do you value it enough to pay a small sum to support this independent media?
Here are ways you can make a financial contribution:
International
A one time contribution of any amount, or through a custom monthly subscription via this link.
If you prefer PayPal, you can contribute at pritisalian@gmail.com.
Indian
Make a one-time or recurring contribution of any amount using this UPI QR Code:
For contributors in India, a one-time payment of ₹5,000 would be especially helpful. Twenty such contributions would allow me to hire someone part-time for four months.
International contributors, a one-time payment of £50 or $60 would support in the same way.
Organisations, a yearly subscription of £500 or $600 or a custom amount would let me pay for accessibility and to contributors.
[Logo ID: On a bright purple background, two white hand illustrations form an open rectangular frame. Inside the frame, the words ‘Reframing Disability’ are written in white text, symbolising a fresh perspective on disability.]
